Nkem is a check-in app for two people. One partner sets how they are feeling; the other sees it, and responds better in real life. This page explains, in plain words, what we store and what we do not.

Nkem is operated by PilotAde, in Lagos, Nigeria. If anything here is unclear, write to support@nkem.app and a person will answer.

Nkem is not a health app

Nkem does not diagnose anything, gives no medical or psychological advice, and is not a substitute for care from a professional. A mood in nkem is a word you chose to share with one person. We make no health claims, and we do not treat your moods as health records.

What we store

What we never collect

We do not collect your location. We do not read your contacts, photos, files, calendar, messages, or call history. We take no payments. We use no advertising identifiers, show no ads, and there are no third-party trackers or analytics tools inside nkem.

Moods fade

A mood is meant to read as now. Each one stops being shown to your partner once its window has passed, and leaves their screen entirely soon after. Nkem has no history screen, no charts, no streaks and no score. We do not analyse your moods, and nobody at nkem reads your notes.

Two separate things happen here, and both are worth stating plainly. Fading controls what your partner sees: a mood leaves their screen within a day or two of being set. Deletion is automatic and permanent: every mood, and any note attached to it, is deleted from our database 30 days after you set it, whether or not you ever open nkem again. Nothing is archived, and we keep no copy anywhere.

Who can see your moods

Only the one person you are paired with. Not other users, not the public, and not us for any purpose beyond keeping the service running. Nkem has no feed and no discovery: there is no way for a stranger to find you.

We do not sell your data or share it for advertising, and we never will.

Who helps us run nkem

Our database sits in Europe, so your information leaves Nigeria. It is held under contract by the provider above, and used only for the purposes described here.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside nkem, in settings. Deleting removes your profile, your moods and their notes, your pairing, and your notification token. Your partner is told gently that the pair has ended, rather than being left staring at a screen wondering.

You can also write to support@nkem.app and we will delete your account for you.

Nkem is for adults

Nkem is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, write to support@nkem.app and we will remove it.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels between your phone and our database over an encrypted connection. Access is enforced by the database itself, row by row: an account can only ever read its own data and its partner’s, never anyone else’s.

No system is perfect and we will not pretend otherwise. If something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to support@nkem.app and we will answer within 30 days. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change matters to you, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
